What is the Swedish National Association of Psychotherapy Centers (Psykoterapicentrum)?

Psykoterapicentrum is an association for licensed psychotherapists, students of psychotherapy and others interested in psychodynamic psychotherapy. It was started forty years ago in 1971. With more than 1200 members, it is the largest association of psychotherapists in Sweden.

Psykoterapicentrum's main purpose is to further the development of psychotherapy, especially, psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psykoterapicentrum advocates professionality, effectivity and ethics in psychotherapy in the private and public sectors. Guidelines are given to Psykoterapicentrum's members to facilitate the pursuance of qualified psychodynamic psychotherapy. The latest developments within the field are followed and reported on to Psykoterapicentrum's members and the public.

Psykoterapicentrum's various activities are conducted by a national center in Stockholm and eleven local centers throughout Sweden.

Psykoterapicentrum cooperates with patient- and family-member organizations, as well as, with other national associations of licensed psychotherapists with different orientations.

Significant Work Areas

1. Psykoterapicentrum investigates the availability of economic and other resources for the utilization and promotion of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

2. Psykoterapicentrum distributes information to governmental and other authorities and institutions about psychodynamic psychotherapy in the public and private sectors.

3. Psykoterapicentrum replies to governmental and other official inquiries and proposals in regard to psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Professional Issues

Psykoterapicentrum monitors, investigates and provides information, suggestions and proposals concerning the professional issues of psychotherapists: such as, questions regarding private practice, quality assurance and ethics.

Education and Training

Psykoterapicentrum's strives to maintain and assure high quality in the education and training of psychotherapists.

Psykoterapicentrum monitors and reports on the latest developments in education and training for psychotherapists.

Information

Psykoterapicentrum prepares and distributes information to spread awareness and knowledge about psychodynamic psychotherapy to the public, decision-makers, health-care personnel other caregivers, and schools.

Psykoterapicentrum continually takes part in professional fairs in Sweden and internationally.

Twice a year, Psykoterapicentrum organizes national conferences with lecturers who are at the forefront of the latest international developments in psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Psykoterapicentrum's local centers arrange activities and provides relevant information to its members and the public. They coordinate individuals, institutions and organizations, to Psykoterapicentrum members in private practice for therapies, supervisions, lectures, education and training.

The magazine, Psykoterapi (Psychotherapy), is published four times a year. It reports on the latest developments in psychodynamic psychotherapy and includes articles, debate and information from Psykoterapicentrum's Board and other members.

International Cooperation

Psykoterapicentrum cooperates internationally through EFPP (The European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector) and EAP (The European Association for Psychotherapy). Research is followed internationally through SPR' s (Society for Psychotherapy Research) annual conferences.
